FBAR Direct vs TurboTax — Can TurboTax File Your FBAR?

Many people search for FBAR filing in TurboTax, but TurboTax does not support FinCEN Form 114 filing. Here is what you need to know.

TurboTax Does Not File FBARs

TurboTax is a tax preparation software that handles federal and state income tax returns (Form 1040). However, TurboTax does not support FBAR filing. The FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) is a completely separate obligation filed with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), not the IRS.

Even if you use TurboTax to prepare your tax return, you still need to file your FBAR separately. TurboTax will not remind you to file an FBAR, and there is no FBAR add-on available.

How to File Your FBAR

Since TurboTax cannot file your FBAR, you have three options:

  1. FBAR Direct ($59-79) — A guided filing service that submits your FBAR directly to FinCEN through the BSA E-Filing system. AI-powered bank statement extraction, automatic currency conversion, and you receive a BSA tracking ID as proof of filing.
  2. BSA E-Filing Portal (Free) — FinCEN's free government portal. Requires manual data entry, no save/resume, and manual currency conversion.
  3. CPA ($200-500+) — A tax professional can file your FBAR as part of a broader engagement. Recommended for complex situations.
